Jump Yip - Prairie Dog Prayer - SJ Merwin

"Jump Yip" - Prairie Dog Prayer

About This Painting:
Prairie Dogs have an extensive language. This posture with vocal yip can mean: All Clear, I'm Here, but some think the Prairie dog is praying: please don't shoot me. Prairie dogs are part of the eco system that creates rich soil. When soil is packed and doesn't grow much, the Prairie Dogs show up. By digging tunnels and leaving their waste they arieate and fertilize the soil and enrich it so that more plants can grow. Prairie Dogs are Montana's version of the Meir Cats. Prairie dogs have complex social interactions.
