About This Painting:
The dance of creativity is one of many types of steps. One of the most basic steps to becoming more creative is making connections. This painting is full of connections. The mixed media is an unusual combination of paint and ink applied in new ways making new connections of the medium. The horse is a new connection of perspective. I've done a series of Blue Dancers but imagining Blue Dancer at rest brings a new way of seeing. The final image is also about connections, connections with the viewer. The viewer will be able to see the painting in two different ways. The first is Blue Dancer in profile. Then if the viewer relaxes their eyes, it will look like Blue Dancer is in 3/4 profile.

Creativity is about making connections. How you think about creativity has a lot to do with how creative you are. So asking yourself a series of questions is very useful in the creative journey. How creative do you think you are? How often do you allow yourself just to sit and think and make mental connections? How often do you allow yourself to try something new and different? How often do you look for things to discover? How often do you look in the sky and watch the clouds make shapes that you can identify?

Watching Clouds is a great example of connections. Many of my paintings come from the considerable time I spend watching clouds. The state I live in is nicknamed Big Sky for a reason. The Big Sky of Montana moves with cloud shapes that continually inspire me.
